Things to Do For Kids in Flagstaff

Meteor Crater

One of the many things to do for kids in Flagstaff is to visit the Meteor Crater. This National Landmark features a museum and gift shop, as well as a 4D experience room that allows visitors to experience the crater from different perspectives. The site has been the training ground for the astronauts that made the moon landing, including Neil Armstrong, Buzz Aldrin and Michael Collins.

Meteor Crater, located just outside Flagstaff, Arizona is the largest meteor impact crater in the world. It measures nearly a mile in width and is 550 feet deep. There are also several interactive exhibits and movies that allow kids to learn more about how meteorites impact Earth’s surface.

Pioneer Museum

One of the things to do for kids in Flagstick is to explore the pioneer museum. This museum offers exhibits that show the life of pioneer children, as well as a playroom for little ones. You can even learn more about the pioneers by visiting a Pioneer Day celebration.

Flagstaff’s Riordan Mansion is another attraction. It is a 13,000-square-foot Craftsman home built by the Riordan brothers. Until the 1980s, the home was occupied by their descendants. The Riordan Mansion is open for tours daily. Visitors can also opt to take self-guided tours. The Pioneer Museum is a great place to take your kids to learn more about Flagstaff’s pioneer history and the logging industry. The museum has educational programs and a camp that recreates pioneer days in the region.

Fort Tuthill County Park

Fort Tuthill County Park is an excellent choice for families looking for activities to do with their children in Flagstaff, Arizona. This regional park, located about 3 miles south of the city, features multi-use trails, archery, and outdoor recreation programs. The park hosts many unique events throughout the year, such as the Coconino County Fair. Winter offers families cross-country skiing and passive ski play. There are also 30 wildlife viewing areas within 30 miles of Flagstaff.

The park features the historic Riordan Mansion, which was built by two successful businessmen in the early 1900s. It was occupied by the descendants of the original owners until the 1980s when it was bought by the state. It is open to the public and has interactive displays. The museum also offers Junior Park Ranger booklets, which allow children to experience the historic building.

Lava Tubes from the Lava River Cave

Lava tubes are a great way to spend an afternoon with family. The Lava River Cave is a 0.75-mile long lava tube located in northern Arizona. This is the longest cave of its type in Arizona. The cave was formed by volcanic activity and is now one of Flagstaff’s most popular tourist attractions.

You will need a flashlight and a headlamp to navigate the cave. The cave’s low ceilings make it difficult to see anything without a headlamp. You should also bring a backup light source and notify someone of your plans before you go.

Nordic Village

The Flagstaff Nordic Center’s Nordic Village is a great place for families to spend the winter. The park’s multi-use trails are ideal for skiing or cross-country skiing. It is located 15 miles north of Flagstaff along Highway 180. The park offers a number of accommodations, including cabins, yurts, and a campground. The resort is a popular spot for weddings and meetings.

You can rent classic and/or skate skis, snowboards, or any other equipment. There are also guided tours on 50 km of trails. Nordic Village offers lessons for both beginners and experts at an affordable price.
