There are a number of fun activities for the whole family in this historic town. You can visit the Basilica di Santa Croce and the Cesine Nature Reserve. Many former farms are also full of character. Masseria Torre Coccaro, for example, has an indoor swimming pool that was built into a cave and offers many beautiful walks. Easter is a particularly exciting time to visit the town, as local children go fancy dress and families gather to watch parades. People can also get confetti from the locals to throw in the air. This is a wonderful opportunity for children to mingle with the people and get a real taste of local life.

Castel del Monte

The layout of Castel del Monte is quite unusual. Visitors are surrounded by a courtyard and descend from one room to another. It also contains a doorless wall on the upper floor, with a gap between every two rooms that carries sound from one area to another. Originally, the interior of the building was much more ornate, with marbles, mosaics, and carvings. The result is a grand castle that would not be suited to children.

Cesine Nature Reserve

The Cesine is a 380 hectare wetland, located in southern Italy near Lecce. It was designated a Ramsar site by the Italian government in 1977. Visitors can enjoy the wetlands and observe birds.

Basilica di Santa Croce

The Basilica di Santa Croce is the largest Franciscan church in the world. Inside are 16 chapels, many with frescoes by Giotto. The Basilica was built by wealthy Rome families in 1294. Pope Eugene IV consecrated it in 1442. It is the final resting place of many of the illustrious people of Italian history and is also referred to as the Temple of Italian Glory.

Piazza Sant’Oronzo

The Public Gardens are a great place to spend a day with children in Lecce. These gardens are home to trees and fountains, and they’re an oasis away from the crowded streets of Lecce. The temperatures in the city can reach 100 degrees during the summer months. It’s cheaper to visit the city in the cooler months.

Lecce’s cathedral

A visit to Lecce’s cathedral is a great thing to do with kids. After sewerage excavations revealed archaeological treasures from the Messapii culture, this impressive structure was converted into a museum. The museum is easily accessible and offers a fun, interactive experience to children.

Lecce has a wonderful market for kids, especially during Christmas time. This market is a great way to buy handmade Christmas gifts from local craftsmen. There is even a horse carousel for kids in the center of the city. The town is also home to a 20-meter Christmas tree, as well as a bright star.

There is plenty to see in Lecce, including its magnificent churches. The area is also a great place for day trips, as many of the beautiful towns are nearby. This is a great place for families with young children.
